what matters to me

While there are many things in my life that matter, the four most important are my family, my friends, hockey and my faith.

It is difficult to imagine not having a family. Most of my favorite memories involve my family. Holidays, vacations and day-to-day events are made more special and tolerable because of my family. My mom and dad help me to be the best I can be and have provided me with many incredible opportunities. Although we have very different interests, I love spending time with my sisters. I am sandwiched between my older sister Audrey, who is a freshman in college and my younger sister Baelee who is in fourth grade. This gives me an opportunity to get experience from my older sister while having a chance to help my younger sister. The funniest member of our family is our dog Charlie. He is the real boss of our house.

Some of the most fun I have ever had are with my friends. Whether they are classmates, teammates, or friends from church, my friends always make life fun. The best times I have ever had are trips I have taken with friends. My school trip to Washington D.C. and hockey tournaments in Phoenix, San Diego, Breckenridge, Vail, Aspen, San Jose, and Minnesota have given me life long memories. My friends also help me deal with life’s ups and downs and are a constant support each day.

Hockey is my favorite sport and it is a huge part of my life. I am usually on the ice 4-5 times a week and love being at the rink. Hockey has taught me many valuable lessons such as discipline, hard work and being a great teammate. I have had the chance to learn from many incredible coaches and have made life long friends through hockey. I love the feeling of being on the ice, lacing up my skates and the rush of scoring on the occasional break away. Hockey has also given me a chance to travel to other states and connecting with other players my age who all have the common bond of playing the best sport in the world.

Lastly, my faith is very important to me. While my faith is still growing and like life has many ups and downs, I know that my faith in God will always help me. The foundation provided by my faith can offer guidance and direction when I am faced with difficult situations. My faith also provides me with a sense of purpose. Over the years I have had the chance to help and serve those less fortunate and it always brings perspective on how blessed my life is.

What I love is truly what matters and what matters is what I truly love.
